1.1   How much lift kit or suspension kit may I install and still be legal in my state?

First off, let me start by saying that your state legislature writes the laws for your state. Second, many times members of your state legislature will propose a law and they really know nothing about what they are proposing! Therefore to us off-roaders, the lift laws may be totally crazy.

Unfortunately these laws may and probably will change! So the answer is today's law may be changed tomorrow and while your 4x4 may have been in compliance today, tomorrow it may no longer be in compliance!

So how do you know if your 4x4 is in compliance. First, talk with one of your local State Patrol officers. However, be warned, some of these folks who are responsible for enforcing the laws on state property may have no clue. Or you just might find an officer who really knows their stuff any may be able to correctly inform you.

Failing this, you can always check your state's web site as most states now post their laws on their websites. Unfortunately finding the laws may require a lot of looking around. And the laws posted may not necessarily be the most current!

If you are from Washington State, there is hope! Click on the following web page link - it has the latest rules from the Washington State Patrol pertaining to vehicle requirements:
